caring

A care assistant is a person who helps in general care of a patient, usually assisting a nurse or social worker for the  care of the vulnerable elderly in the community. A care assistant who is often also called as a caregiver is a persons who provides assistance to physically disabled person or elderly people in doing their daily activities in their home or outside. It is a good career option for people who want to do some social service and also get paid for it but the job is tough at times.

Becoming a care assistant requires that you have worked before in the same capacity even if it is on a volunteer basis. However even if you are devoid of such experience you can still work as a  care assistant by getting trained by someone who already is a care assistant. Your employer could also help you with the legal paper work or any other similar issue.

But a training program could only give you a start but if you want to strive in this field you need to be a compassionate person. If you do not care about the predicament of others and what they are going through  this is not the job for you. You need to be very patient as there may be things that for you are  cinch but not so for them.

Some of the tasks that a care assistant is supposed to do are :-
  • Helping their patients in walking and exercising.
  • Making sure that their patients eat healthy and nutritious food
  • Performing housekeeping works that their patients may not be able to do like laundry, dusting ,making beds, washing, etc.
  • Providing emotional support to them by doing conversations with them and playing games with them or watching television as a way of providing companionship.
